Fire Prevention 101 – Rules and Reminders

  • Alii Place is a NO SMOKING Facility
  • Do not lean against a fire alarm pull station
  • Do not use extension cords as a substitute for permanent wiring
  • Use extension cords which are UL approved and properly inspected for temporary use only
  • Do not bring, store hazardous and flammable materials into the building other than for construction with prior authorization
  • Do not light any candles – Candles are not permitted in the building.
  • Do not stack anything in front of telephone equipment or electrical panels and transformers
  • Do not accumulate quantities of discarded files or paper trash in premises
  • Do not prop open suite doors or any of the fire exit doors 
  • Freight vestibule doors are to remain shut at all times
  • Consider the combustible nature or fire potential of office furniture, flooring material such as carpet prior to purchase
  • Ensure all appliances in premises are turned off prior to leaving building
  • Toaster ovens are not permitted in the building.
  • Unplug and repair all faulty electrical equipment in Tenant premises
  • When building work is upcoming where a building-wide electrical/power shutdown is required, unplug all electrical equipment from their wall sockets (including refrigerators, coffee machines, computers, phones, etc.). This strongly recommended due to the surge that occurs when power is restored. – It is at the discretion and responsibility of the Tenant to evaluate inconvenience (of emptying refrigerators, for example) versus any potential risk of damage to their electrical equipment.
  • Do not place combustible materials near heat-producing devices
  • Do use heaters under desks or near flammable materials – Heaters are not permitted in the building.
  • Report to building management any common area items of an electrical nature which need repair or replacement 
  • Do not gather in front of the main entrance to ensure pathways remain easily accessible for fire or police officials.
  • If notified that there is a fire, evacuate premise and move immediately to the Safe Meeting Place to be away from the building – Do not call the management office to ask if an alarm is real or only a drill. All unannounced fire alarms should be considered actual; Proceed to evacuate the building immediately.

In case of fire...

DO

  • Activate the fire alarm pull station
  • Alert your floor wardens and follow established procedures
  • Walk to assigned stair exit; close doors behind you
  • Keep to the right, single file down steps
  • Go to the preassigned safe area outside the building

DON’T

  • Panic
  • Remain in your suite or in the building
  • Re-enter suite for personal belongings
  • Break windows
  • Use elevators
  • Run
  • Congregate on stairs
  • Re-enter building until notified by officials
